This is a new publication of the first volume Ancient Philosophy of Bertrand Russell's History of Western Philosophy and its Connection with Political and Social Circumstances from the Earliest Times to the Present Day. As this monumental and encyclopedic treatise (internally divided into three books) is, in fact, a trilogy, it will be published as three volumes: History of Western Philosophy: Ancient Philosophy History of Western Philosophy: Catholic Philosophy History of Western Philosophy: Modern Philosophy The main reason for the new publication of this monumental work, written by a unique intellectual, mathematician, logician and philosopher, is that it is one of Russell's greatest contributions to our civilization that were recognized by the Nobel Committee when it awarded the 1950 Nobel Prize for Literature to him - "in recognition of his varied and significant writings in which he champions humanitarian ideals and freedom of thought."
